Bitter Scale Head


Description
Cap convex to expanded, Ø 2-6 cm, slightly sticky, orange-yellow or saffron to apricot red.
Gills pale orange with salmon tinge to cinnamon.
Stem 5-8 cm x 4-9 mm, yellow-orange, the lower part, below the dark ring zone, brown felted-fibrous, reddish brown at the base. Flesh yellow to yellow-brown. Taste bitter.

Occurrence
Fairly common on stumps and dead wood of coniferous trees (Pine, Spruce, Fir) on sandy soil.
Saprophyte.
