Description
Cap hemispherical to expanded, Ø 3-7 cm, golden yellow to yellow-orange, with upturned, light yellow to sulphur-yellow scales and incurvate margin, overhung with velar remnants when young.
Gills pale yellow to rusty brownish yellow.
Stem 3-7 cm x 4-10 mm, bright yellow, below the yellow, woolly ring yellow to brown scales. Flesh pale yellow to orange-yellow. Taste somewhat sour. Smell faint, fruity.
Occurrence
Not uncommon on dead wood on coniferous trees in woods on sandy soil. Often in groups.
