Scaly Wood Cap


Description
Cap convex to depressed flattened, Ø 5-10 cm, matt, cream to light brown, with minute to large pale brown scales.
Gills decurrent, white to yellowish, edge scored-serrate.
Stem 3-6 x 1-2 cm, whitish cream, scaly below the woolly fibrous, velar zone, with brown to brown-black base. Flesh tough, whitish. Taste mild. Smell sweet.
Suspect.

Occurrence
Not uncommon on processed wood of coniferous trees in buildings and in parks and gardens, particularly on sleepers, occasionally on dead or living trunks and stumps of coniferous trees. Summer to autumn.
Saprophyte.
