Description
Cap convex to plane, Ø 2-4 cm, yellow-brown to dark yellow-brown, striped at the margin when dry, often with white velar remnants on and at the marginal zone.
Gills distant, slightly decurrent, cinnamon.
Stem 2-5 cm x 2-4 mm, cinnamon to pale-brown-yellow, downy, white at the base. Flesh brown-yellow.

Occurrence
Common on wood chips, branches and twigs, occasionally on coarse litter and humus in deciduous woods, shrubberies, parks and gardens. Summer to autumn.
Saprophyte.

Related and/or similar species
In the field Tubaria hiemalis is hardly discernable from Tubaria furfuracea, but it appears from October to January, especially on woodcuttings.
