Common Stump Brittle Cap
Description
Cap convex to plane, Ø 2-6 cm, pale yellow-brown or ochre-brown to chestnut, often with dark centre, margin overhung with white velar remnants when young.
Gills grey-beige to chocolate-brown, with whitish edge.
Stem 3-7 cm x 3-8 mm, white, yellow-brown at the base. Flesh watery brown. Taste bitter. Smell faint.

Occurrence
Common on or near dead trunks, stumps and buried wood of deciduous trees (Oak, Beech) in deciduous woods, parks and avenues on sandy soil. In clusters. Summer to autumn.
