Common Brittle Cap
(Fringed Brittle Cap, Two-toned Veil-cap, or White Brittle Cap)
Description
Cap bell-shaped to flattened expanded, Ø 2-6 cm, pale ochre-brown when damp; white when dry, margin overhung with white velar remnants.
Gills light grey-violet to chocolate-brown.
Stem 4-8 cm x 4-8 mm, hollow, brittle, floccose, white. Flesh white.
Suspect.
Occurrence
Common on or near dead branches, stumps, trunks and buried wood of deciduous trees in deciduous woods, parks, avenues, shrubberies, osier beds, grassland and gardens. From one single cap a small but complete fruit-body has grown, with the stem pointing upwards. In groups or clusters. Spring to autumn.
