Dung Mottle Gill
Description
Cap conical to bell-shaped with umbo, Ø 10-25 mm, matt, dark-brown to red-brown when damp; whitish grey, fibrous to dingy ochrous beige with brownish centre when dry, acute margin with velar remnants forming delicate teeth.
Gills grey-beige to brown-black.
Stem 5-10 cm x 1-3 mm, smooth, matt, whitish pruinose, whitish, dark brown base with a hint of wine-red. Flesh beige to grey-brown. Taste peppery, spicy. Smell spicy.
Poisonous.
Occurrence
Common on the ground near or on dung in grassland, public gardens, lawns and roadsides and sandy soil. Summer to autumn.
