Description
Cap hemispherical to convex, Ø 15-30 mm, smooth, shiny, dark red-brown or black-brown to black when damp; becoming pale when dry.
Gills dingy brown to black-brown.
Stem 3-5 cm x 2-3 mm, apex white pruinose, white fibrous on red-brown background. Flesh dingy brown. Taste mild. Smell none.
Poisonous.

Occurrence
Not uncommon on humus-rich soil in unmanured or sparsely manured grassland on sandy soil. Summer to autumn.
Saprophyte.
