Description
Cap ovoid to campanulate expanded, Ø 2-4 cm, 1-3 cm high, radially striped furrowed, light grey to mouse-grey, with brownish centre, covered with floccose, whitish veil, margin torn.
Stem 7-13 cm x 3-5 mm, hollow, fragile, floccose or smooth, white. Flesh greyish. Taste mild. Smell none.

Occurrence
Often in groups on the ground and on wood chips in woods, public gardens, parks and roadsides on rich soil. Summer to autumn.
Saprophyte.

Related and/or similar species
Can be confused with the larger Coprinus lagopides which grows on fire sites and along paths covered with wood chips, and can only be distinguished with certainty by microscopic features.
