Description
Cap globose (appearing like a drumstick (435B.jpg)), then plane with raised centre, Ø 10-25 cm, light yellow brown to grey brown, concentrically zoned with dark brown, large scales.
Gills white.
Stem 15-30 x 1-3 cm, cream, with felted, grey brown, horizontal zones, a large, double ring, white on upper surface and brown below, movable on the stem, and a bulbous swollen base. Flesh white. Smell faint.
Edible.

Occurrence
In unmanured or sparsely manured grasslands and roadsides and broad-leaved and mixed woods on poor soil.
Saprophyte.
