Description
Cap hemispherical at first, then undulate expanded with obtuse umbo, Ø 3-5 cm, pressed scaly, black-purple, later with concentrically positioned, dark wine-red scales on a white background, with a dark purple centre and a long inverse margin.
Gills white to creamy.
Stem 3-6 cm x 4-8 mm, above the woolly floccose ring zone whitish to violet brown striped, below the ring zone purple brown, fibrillose or with fine scales. Flesh creamy white. Smell unpleasant, mushroomy.
Occurrence
On moderately bare humus-rich and rich soils in broad-leaved and coniferous woods on calcareous loam or clay or on slag heaps.
