Shield Fungus
Description
Cap campanulate, then conical, expanded with umbo, Ø 4-8 cm, centre smooth, ochrous-brown, with concentric, upturned, pale ochrous brown scales on a cream background, with floccose, torn margin. Gills white.
Stem 5-10 cm x 4-8 mm, cottony-woolly, white to straw yellow. Flesh white. Smell spicy.
Suspicious.
Occurrence
On calcareous, loamy to clayey soil thickly covered with leaf litter, under broad-leaved trees (Beech, Hornbeam, Oak).
Saprophyte.
