Description
Cap globose, then expanded with obtuse umbo, Ø 2-5 cm, creamy brown, with dark brown, conical or plane, upturned scales. Gills white to cream.
Stem 3-6 cm x 3-6 mm, smooth, cream, below the woolly ring zone light brown with brown, floccose scales, with swollen, white-felted base. Flesh whitish. Smell disagreeably pungent.
Occurrence
On humus-rich soil in broad-leaved woods and near wildshoots of young trees on chalk slopes and slag heaps, on rich loamy or clayey soil.
Saprophyte.
