Description
Fruit-body dome- to apple-shaped, Ø 10-20 mm, with long stem. Outer surface smooth, parchment-like, light brown or red-brown to creamy yellow, with a central, papilla-like opening surrounded by a brown, ring-shaped zone, Ø 1 mm.
Stem 2-8 cm x 2-4 mm, tough, yellow-brown with red-brown scales, largely remaining below the surface.

Occurrence
On dry, calcareous dune sand deficient in humus, among mosses and in unmanured, dry grasslands in sand dunes and dune scrub.
Saprophyte.
