Leopard-spotted Earthball
Description
Fruit-body irregularly dome-shaped to bulbous, Ø 1-4 cm, with a short stem. Outer surface covered with flat, dark scales surrounded by a lighter ring, producing a leopard skin pattern, yellow-brown.
Stem 1-2 cm long, rooting with mycelium strands, grooved, smooth, yellowish. Flesh deeply purple-brown.
Poisonous.
Occurrence
In broad-leaved and mixed woods, shrubberies, parks and avenues.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
