Description
Fruit-body growing from a grey-whitish, leathery devil 's egg which develops below to mostly above the surface, Ø 3-6 cm, rupturing the outer membrane with a disc or egg tooth. Devil 's egg with long, white mycelium strand. Fruit-body 10-15 x 3-4 cm. Upper part conical-campanulate, with dark olive-green slime with a sweetish stench, below that with wide, deep honeycomb-shaped, white, with ring-shaped disc at the apex. The white to creamy, irregular and coarse meshed standing out to hanging veil or indusium develops from underneath the cap around the top of the stem.
Stem 8-12 x 2-3 cm, spongy, hollow, white.
Occurrence
On humus-rich soil, deficient in lime in gardens, parks and woods.
Saprophyte.
