Fluted Bird's Nest Fungus
(Black-egg Birds Nest Fungus, Grooved Birds-nest Fungus, or Striated Cyathus)
Description
Less than 1cm: Use magnifying glass.
Fruit-body closed top- to cup-shaped, Ø 6-8 mm, 7-10 mm high. Outer surface bristly-hairy, brown, with a white, irregularly rupturing membrane. Cup with grey-white eggs 1-2mm in diameter, attached by a strand. Inner surface striped-furrowed, shiny, light to dark brown-grey.
Occurrence
On chips, stumps, coarse litter, branches and twigs of broad-leaved trees and shrubs.
Saprophyte.
