Field Bird's Nest Fungus
(Grey-egg Birds Nest Fungus, or Trumpet Birds Nest)
Description
Less than 1cm: Use magnifying glass.
Fruit-body closed egg- to top-shaped, Ø 8-12 mm, 8-15 mm high. Outer surface felted, yellowish grey, with a downy, whitish, irregularly rupturing membrane. Cup with buff eggs, 2-3 mm in diameter, attached to the inner surface by a strand, inner surface smooth, silvery grey.
Occurrence
Usually in groups on the ground on coarse litter, trunks, stumps and branches of broad-leaved trees and shrubs and plant stems.
Saprophyte.
