Soft-spined Puffball


Description
Fruit-body spherical to pear- to top-shaped, Ø 2-6 cm, 3-7 cm high, with stem. Upper part first light brown, granular clayey, with grey-brown warts, partly growing towards each other. They appear in groups spread out evenly and forming circular patterns. Later the upper part turns creamy to yellowish brown. It is smooth and has a central opening.
Stem 2-3 cm high, up to 3 cm thick, granular to smooth, creamy to yellowish-brown. Fleh white to olive-brown.


Occurrence
In broad-leaved and mixed woods, avenues and scrubs on dry to moderate damp humus-rich, moderate calcareous and mildly acid sandy soils and on unmanured dry grasslands.
Saprophyte.
