Flaky Puffball
Description
Fruit-body broad pear-shaped, Ø 3-6 cm, 4-8 cm high, with short, broad stem. Outer surface with evanescent, woolly, white to cream warts, remaining at the (base of the) stem in the form of a ring, whitish to pinkish ochrous brown, with central opening. Flesh white to yellow-brown.
Occurrence
On rich river clay or calcareous soil in avenues and broad-leaved woods (Beech, Hornbeam).
Saprophyte.
