Description
Fruit-body closed globose, Ø 1-3 cm, growing partly below the surface. When ripe, the leathery outer membrane ruptures at the base and the sphere, on the saucer-shaped covering with reflexed margin, rises above the surface, on which the Fruit-body is usually reversed. Inner surface of the saucer grey-brown to red-brown or dark brown. Sphere with irregular, small, central opening, matt, yellow-brown or grey-brown to light grey.

Occurrence
On dry dune sand deficient in humus, on sandy or moss- and grass-covered, sheltered, sunny locations.
Saprophyte.

Related and/or similar species
- Disciseda candida or Disciseda calva, which can only be distinguished by microscopic features.
