Description
Fruit-body closed globose, with 7-10 occasionally reflexed rays, Ø 15-35 mm. Lower surface pale brown with attached soil. Inner surface light cream to dark brown. Sphere Ø 9-16 mm, with a short stem, with a ring zone around the flattened conical, distinctly pleated-furrowed opening, warty rough, grey or grey-brown to dark brown or black-brown.

Occurrence
On (dune) sand deficient in lime and humus in mossy grasslands, Hawthorn scrub, in clearings and along paths in broad-leaved and coniferous woods.
Saprophyte.
