Description
Fruit-body closed globose, with 5-9 rays, Ø 5-12 cm. Lower surface brown and with attached soil. Inner surface cream or pinkish to wine red or brown-red. Sphere Ø 20-40 mm, stem short or absent, with ciliate opening, felted round smooth, light brown, occasionally with pink tinge.

Occurrence
On fairly rich, humus-rich (dune) sand in broad-leaved woods, parks and avenues (Oak and Elm), rarely under coniferous trees.
Saprophyte.
