Four-rayed Earthstar
Description
Fruit-body closed globose, with 4 erect rays, attached at the points, Ø 2-4 cm. Lower surface whitish to light brown. Inner surface whitish or cream to brown. Sphere Ø 5-15 mm, with a clearly demarcated stem, with an areola or ring-shaped furrow around the conical, ciliate opening, mealy, buff-grey to dark grey or pale brown.
Occurrence
On dry to moderately damp sandy soil in coniferous woods with a thick layer of litter.
Saprophyte.
