Description
Fruit-body closed dome- to onion-shaped, with 6-10 rays, Ø 3-11 cm. Lower surface cream to brownish, with attached soil. Inner surface cream to buff-brown. Sphere Ø 14-20 mm, with long stem, with strongly pleated furrowed opening, mealy, grey-brown to brown-black.

Occurrence
On damp sandy, clayey and loamy soils with a thick layer of litter or humus under coniferous trees in coniferous and mixed woods.
Saprophyte.
