Pine Fire Fungus
(Crust-like Cup, or Doughnut Fungus)
Description
Fruit-body irregularly saucer- or cushion-shaped, Ø 4-12 cm. Upper surface chestnut to black-brown, with white, downwards incurved margin, stem absent. Lower surface yellow or ochrous yellow, attached to the buried mycelium by strands; the mycelium can penetrate the roots of coniferous trees with rhizomorphs.
Occurrence
Solitary or in (fused) groups on sites of fires, burnt wood and felled areas near coniferous trees. Spring to autumn.
