Bitter Bracket


Description
Fruit-body annual, cushion-shaped, bracket-like to kidney-shaped. Cap 3-12 x 2-5 cm, 1-4 cm thick. Upper surface finely felted, white to ochre-cream, with acute margin.
Tubes 3-10 mm long, white. Pores 3-4 per mm, circular to elongate, white to cream. Flesh crumbly, white. Smell sweetish, pungent. Taste bitter.
Spore-print colour white.

Occurrence
Common on stumps, trunks (also on saw cuts), and branches of coniferous trees, occasionally on wood of deciduous trees.
Saprophyte.
