Conifer Resinous Polypore
Description
Fruit-body annual, flattened bracket-like to fan-shaped. Cap 4-20 x 3-15 cm. Upper surface concentrically undulate, radially furrowed, rough to felted, later smooth, dark red-brown to black, with acute, undulate, whitish to yellow-brown margin.
Tubes 5-8 mm long, light ochre. Pores 4-6 per mm, circular, white to ochrous, staining brown when touched. Flesh juicy, light ochre.
Spore-print colour white.
Occurrence
Fairly common on stumps and trunks of coniferous trees.
Saprophyte.
