Description
Less than 1cm: Use magnifying glass.
Fruit-body annual, stem centrally or eccentrically. Cap circle- to fan-shaped, wavy flattened with a waved, furrowed rim, Ø 3-15 cm, 1-2 cm thick, fine felted when dry, later often breaking in coarse scales or fields, when young whitish, later black sulphur- or greenish-yellow to ochre-brown. Stem 1-5 x 1-2 cm, with a narrowed base, fine felted, whitish, sometimes with brown patches.
Tubes 1-5 mm long, whitish, declining on the stem, turning yellow when bruised. Pores 2-4 per mm, round to angular, white. Flesh brittle, white. Smell pleasant. Taste mild, nutty.

Occurrence
Sometimes solitary, usually growing in mutual and bundled groups in the (sub)alpine zone near Spruce.
Saprophyte.
