Description
Less than 1cm: Use magnifying glass.
Fruit-body perennial, hard, crust-like, forming strips measuring a few square centimetres to several decimetres in length, 5-15 mm thick, with light yellow-brown, felted marginal zone. With several tube layers.
Tubes each layer 1-3 mm long, mustard yellow. Pores 3-5 per mm, circular to angular, yellow-brown to dark brown.
Spore-print colour white.
Occurrence
Not uncommon on branches and trunks of deciduous trees (Oak) in deciduous woods on poor soil.
Saprophyte.
Related and/or similar species
Can only be distinguished from Phellinus ferruginosus with certainty by microscopic features.
Also Phellinus punctatus (Very rare.)
