Russula violeipes

Description
Cap convex to vaulted or flat with a depressed centre, Ø 4-8 cm, dry, somewhat powdered, straw– yellow to partly red or purple to lilac or wine-coloured.
Gills somewhat declining, pale straw-yellow, greasy when rubbed.
Stem 4-7 x 1-3 cm, white, powdered, often with yellow, violet, purple or wine coloured shades. Flesh white. Taste mild. Smell weak.
Spore-print colour cream.
Edible.

Occurrence
Near deciduous trees (Oak, Beech, Birch) in lanes and deciduous forests on loamy sand, loam and clay.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
