Common Yellow Brittle Gill


Description
Cap convex to plane with depressed centre, Ø 4-10 cm, matt, ochre to yellow, with smooth to grooved margin.
Gills smal adnexed, cream.
Stem 4-7 cm x 15-25 mm, white to watery grey. Flesh white. Taste mild to pungent.
Spore-print colour whitish to pale cream.

Occurrence
Common near deciduous and coniferous trees.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.

Related and/or similar species
The Common Yellow Brittle Gill may easily be confused with the Beech Russula, Russula fellea, which occurs mainly near Beech and has a straw-yellow to honey-yellow cap and a pale yellow stem.
