Blackening Brittle Gill
Description
Cap convex to plane with depressed centre, Ø 5-20 cm, dry, matt, (below the surface) dingy white to brown, soon turning black.
Gills adnate, very thick, distant, brittle, straw-yellow to olive, turning grey-pink to black when damaged.
Stem 3-8 x 1-4 cm, firm, white to dull brown and black. Flesh white to grey and black. Taste mild. Smell fruity.
Spore-print colour white.
Occurrence
Common near deciduous trees.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
