Description
Cap convex to plane, Ø 3-10 cm, scarlet to cherry-red or blood-red.
Gills free, cream to pale straw-yellow.
Stem 5-12 x 1-2 cm, white. Flesh white. Taste very pungent. Smell fruity.
Spore-print colour white.
Poisonous.

Occurrence
Common near deciduous and coniferous trees (Fir) in marshy Birch woods and coniferous woods on damp, acid soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
