Description
Cap vaulted to flattened with a papil in the flat to depressed centre, Ø 3-8 cm, matt shiny, not sticky deep greyish violet to darker wine-coloured or chestnut -brown.
Gills rather close to each other, narrowly attached, pale ochrous.
Stem 4-9 x 1-2 cm, white. Flesh white. Taste mild to bitter. Smell fruity.
Spore-print colour pale ochre-yellow.
Edible.
Occurrence
Near pines in conifer forests on dry or moist nutrient deficient sand soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
