Liquorice Milk-cap
Description
Cap convex to shallowly funnel-shaped, Ø 5-12 cm, matt, yellowish to reddish cinnamon, with dark spots and scales, with incurved margin when young.
Gills slightly decurrent, pale ochrous yellow to greyish ochre.
Stem 5-12 x 1-3 cm, pruinose or finely downy, reddish ochre to cinnamon-brown or red-brown. Flesh whitish, milk watery. Taste mild. Smell of lovage when dried.
Spore-print colour whitish pink.
Suspect.
Occurrence
Fairly common near Fir and Douglas Fir, occasionally near deciduous trees (Birch, Salix repens) on acid, poor sand or loam.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
