Description
Cap convex to plane, often centrally depressed, Ø 2-5 cm, scurfy, orange-brown to red-brown, drying pink-yellow to ochrous yellow, with pale margin.
Gills distant, pale lilac, white with spores.
Stem 5-14 cm x 4-10 mm, fibrous, ochrous to red-brown, with felted, lilac mycelium at the base, which is often deeply buried in litter. Flesh white. Smell faint.

Occurrence
Fairly common in coniferous woods (Pine) and mixed woods (Beech) on dry sandy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
