Description
Cap bell-shaped to flattened expanded with obtuse umbo, Ø 3-7 cm, fibrous splitting on lighter background, reddish to dark grey-brown.
Gills whitish to olive-brown.
Stem 4-6 cm x 5-7 mm, slender, finely striped, red-brown to grey-brown, bulb-shaped base distinctly marginal. Flesh pale to brown. Smell musty.
Poisonous.
Occurrence
Not uncommon near Deciduous trees, especially near Oak, in woods and tree-lined roadsides on calcareous clay and sand.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
