Description
Cap conical to expanded with umbo, Ø 2-3 cm, dark grey-brown when damp; pale brown to grey-brown when dry, with fine fibrous, whitish scales.
Gills pale to cinnamon.
Stem 3-7 cm x 3-6 mm, brownish, with whitish scales below the white, woolly velar ring. Flesh pale. Smell of geranium (Pelargonium).
Spore-print colour rusty brown.

Occurrence
Fairly common near deciduous tress, occasionally near coniferous trees in woods, shrubberies, parks and avenues.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
