Southern Poplar Mushroom
Description
Cap convex to flattened expanded, Ø 4-10 cm, matt, whitish or creamy yellow, with darker to hazel centre.
Gills cream to dark brown.
Stem 5-10 x 1-2 cm, finely scaly, cream to pale brown, ring browning with spores. Flesh whitish. Taste mild nutty or of radish. Smell pleasant, of radish or fruity.
Edible.
Occurrence
On trunks and stumps of (Pollarded) Poplar, occasionally on Willow, in avenues and broad-leaved windbreaks on rich soil. Summer to autumn.
Saprophyte.
