Description
Cap conical, then wide campanulate to expanded, Ø 7-12 cm, smooth, ochrous brown to dark-grey-brown, with striped margin and large, dingy grey patches. Gills white.
Stem 10-13 cm x 15-30 mm, pale yellow-brown, with horizontal, floccose, whitish zones, at the base 2 to 3 ring-like zones and a bulbous base encased in a volva. Flesh white. Smell faint.

Occurrence
Near broad-leaved trees, particularly Oak, in broad-leaved woods and avenues on river clay.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
