The Blusher
Description
Cap globose, then convex to plane, Ø 5-15 cm, smooth, pink-brown to flesh, with white to pink-red patches.
Gills white, staining wine red when damaged.
Stem 7-12 x 1-2 cm, smooth, white below the membranous, pendulous, striped with ring (occasionally yellow ring: var. annulosulphurea), scaly-felted, white to red-brown, with bulbous base with velar remnants. Flesh white, becoming pink-red. Smell faint.
Edible.
Occurrence
In broad-leaved and coniferous woods and avenues on poor soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
