Description
Cap globose, then convex to expanded, Ø 6-10 cm, smooth, ochrous- to dark brown, with white, warty scales. Gills close, white.
Stem 9-13 cm x 10-15 mm, smooth, white, with frayed, pendulous white ring, with ring-like floccose zones at the base and the strongly swollen base encased in a white volva. Flesh white. Smell faint, pleasant.
Poisonous.

Occurrence
Near broad-leaved trees (Oak, Beech, Birch), occasionally near coniferous trees, in broad-leaved and mixed woods and avenues.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
