Meadow Puffball
(Common Puffball, or Lawn Puffball)
Description
Fruit-body spherical to flattened pear- or top-shaped, Ø 2-5 cm, with short stem. Outer surface granular spiny, rough, pleated at the transition zone between Fruit-body and stem, white or yellowish to olive-brown, with broad, central opening. Stem with tapering pleated base, white or yellowish to brown. Flesh white to olive-brown.
Occurrence
In roadsides, sparsely manured grasslands, on mossy lawns and close-grazed spots in woods, in shrubberies, parks, heaths and roadsides.
Saprophyte.
