Brown Bovist
(Black Bovist, or Dusty Bovist)
Description
Fruit-body irregularly globose, Ø 3-6 cm, with white mycelium strand. Outer surface matt, white to yellowish, coming loose in plaques, revealing the dark purple brown to black inner layer. With large, irregularly opening rupturing opening. Flesh dark purple-brown.
Occurrence
On (loamy) sand and clay in moderately manured, grazed grasslands, in clearings in woods, on heaths and in roadsides.
