Honey Tuft Fungus
Description
Cap obtusely conical, then expanded, Ø 4-20 cm, light flesh to red-brown with dark brown, fibrous scales and velar remnants at the paler, translucent striped margin.
Gills whitish or grey-whitish to cream.
Stem 6-15 x 1-3 cm, whitish-floccose, below the membranous, white, dentate ring with dark brown to black scales on the lower surface, white-fibrous, yellow-brown to brown-black, often with rhizomorphs.
Edible.
Occurrence
Common on the trunk, at the base and on the roots and stumps of deciduous and coniferous trees on acid sandy soil. In tufts.
