Destroying Angel
Description
Cap conical, then convex to expanded, occasionally with raised centre, Ø 5-12 cm, smooth, somewhat viscid and pure white.
Gills close, white.
Stem 9-12 x 1-2 cm, white, often somewhat bent, frayed-fibrillose, with a fragile and evanescent white ring and a grey volva around the narrow bulbous base. Flesh white. Smell unpleasantly sweetish.
Deadly poisonous.
Occurrence
In broad-leaved woods and avenues (Beech, Oak, Birch).
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
