Description
Cap hemispherical to convex, Ø 8-20 cm, pale viaceous red, with vinaceous red scales on a lighter background.
Gills whitish to dark brown.
Stem 5-12 x 3-4 cm, floccose, creamy white to pink-cream, with vinaceous brown ring zones. Flesh firm, rapidly yellowing on bruising and subsequently becoming red-brown. Taste mild. Smell on cutting at first strongly soapy, then faint, pleasant, nutty.

Occurrence
On the ground in parks, young scrub and roadsides on rich, humus-rich or clayey soil.
Saprophyte.
