Horse Mushroom
Description
Cap hemispherical to expanded, Ø 8-20 cm, creamy white, becoming yellow with age or when damaged.
Gills free, white or pink to chocolate-brown.
Stem 8-10 x 2-3 cm, creamy white, yellowing, with a white, double ring, lower one splitting open into a star shape, and a club-shaped swollen base. Flesh white. Taste mushroomy. Smell of aniseed.
Edible.
Occurrence
On the ground in pastures, roadsides, parks, public gardens or recently planted woodland on humus-rich soil.
