Ordo Ustilaginales

Blights

Blights are spread by insects visiting flowers. They render the plant sterile. They develop mainly on the inflorescences, or in and on the reproductive organs and ovaries of plants. In doing this, they are even able to induce the female flowers to form stamens. In Europe several hundreds of species occur. The genus Ustilago is the most common, with over a 100 species on grasses (grains) and herbaceous plants.
